LVT's are trained in an accredited Veterinary Technology program. After graduation they are then required to pass board examinations to become licensed. When properly trained, an LVT can be a major asset to a modern veterinary hospital. LVTs job duties are many and varied, and are often likened to those of a human Registered Nurse (RN). While LVTs perform many of the job functions of an RN, LVTs also administer anesthesia, take and develop radiographs, obtain and run samples for laboratory analysis, perform dental prophylaxis, and prepare and monitor patients for surgery. Many clinics use veterinary assistants who are trained on-the-job to fill their technician positions. We feel properly trained LVTs, due to their intensive training background and skill base, provide a higher level of care making them more prepared to care for your pet.
